Since the arrival of Chapter 2, there’s been a slew of new activities and game changes in Fortnite. One of which, comes in the form of everybody’s favourite pastime… err, fishing.
Fortunately, there’s more than just underwater critters up for grabs. Casting a line in the right location could net you anything from a gold weapon to a ‘small fry’ fish, which can be used to heal a small amount of health. So, how do you fish in Fortnite?
Securing a rod and finding a fishing spot
The first thing you’ll need to do is locate a fishing rod. You can find them in barrels near any body of water and in random chests throughout the game.
Once you’ve secured a rod, you’ll have to find a location to cast a line. These are very easy to spot as they show up as white, bubbling circles in the water and have fish very clearly swimming beneath.
Catch of the day
Once you’ve found a spot to start fishing, it’s time to do just that. Launch your hook into the target area and wait for a noise to indicate you have a bite. Reel in your catch to bag yourself a sweet reward as well as a little XP.
You can expect to catch any of these items:
- Small Fry (heals 25 health)
- Flopper (heals 50 health)
- Slurpfish (heals 50 health or shield)
- Rusty Can (deals 20 damage when thrown)
Mythic Goldfish (deals 200 damage when thrown)
Alternative ways to fish in Fortnite
Although it’s limited to 10 shots, the harpoon gun is a much quicker alternative to the fishing rod. There’s no wait time for the fish to bite. It’s almost instantaneous, ensuring you can jump straight back into the action.
Like the harpoon gun, fishing with explosives is limited in comparison to the fishing rod. However, launching a stick of dynamite, grenade or firing a rocket into a fishing spot will cause multiple items to float to the surface, making it the most efficient way to fish in Fortnite.
If you can think of any extra tips that I missed, Let me know, I’ll be sure to update the blog with your suggestion.
